Stewart Estes, 72, Columbia, KY (1950-2023) Stewart Russell Estes passed away on April 10, 2023, in Columbia, KY. He was 72 years old. Graveside services will be held at 9:30amCT on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the Old Red Lick Cemetery. Stewart was born on October 27, 1950, to Betty Nixon Estes and the late Shirley Russell Estes in Saint Augustine, Florida but he was raised in Madison, Virginia. He joined the Army at the age of 18 and served three years as a radio technician in Germany. He lived most of his life in rural Southern Kentucky where he worked as a stone-mason, operated a portable sawmill, and farmed tobacco. Stewart defied categorization. While he spent most of his life working outdoors and doing manual labor, he also became a computer expert and played complex role playing games. He lived without running water or plumbing, but prided himself on building characters in fantasy realms. His quirky sense of humor and outlook on life will be missed by everyone that knew him. Stewart is survived by his three daughters, Rosalee Anne Reese, Serena Ann Estes, and Margaret Elizabeth Reese, his mother, Betty Estes, his four brothers, Jay Estes, Craig Estes, Darrell Estes, and Spencer Estes, and his sister, Jill Estes. Stewart was a wonderful father and son and will be greatly missed. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
