Rev. William Russell Karnes, 90, Adair County, KY native

Rev. William Russell Karnes was born May 14, 1932, in Adair County, Kentucky to the late Allen and Pearl Butler Karnes. He departed this life Saturday, April 1, 2023, having attained the age of ninety years, ten months, and twenty-seven days.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the South Summersville Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army in Korea as a Sergeant 1st Class Medic. He was a former pastor of several churches in Green and Adair County for over 40 years. After he quit farming, he ran an upholstering business for many years.


Besides his parents, he was preceded in death November 16, 2014, by his wife of fifty-one years, Norma Garrison Karnes, one son, Bill Karnes, one daughter-in-law: Angie Davis Karnes, one granddaughter: Megan Davis Karnes, two brothers: Austin and Jimmy Karnes, three sisters: Geraldine Herbst, Dorothy Mouser and Barbara Booher.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Steve and Amy Karnes of Greensburg, daughter-in-law: Mary Jane Goff Karnes of Akin, South Carolina, four brothers and sisters-in-law: Lonnie and Edna Karnes, Ronnie and Connie Karnes, Randall and Sue Karnes, Darrell and Wanda Karnes, four grandchildren: Chris and Tiffany Karnes, Derek and Kat Karnes, Daniel Karnes and Lucas and Chloe Karnes, great grandchildren: Shelby and Christian Goodin, Grant, Darcy, Dakota and Sierra Karnes, one great great grandchild: Grayson Goodin, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, plus a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Place and Time of Funeral service: Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, 12 Noon Central Time Tues., April 4, 2023. Burial: Green County Memory Garden, Summersville Community of Green County with full Military Honors presented by Marion County Veterans Honor Guard

Pallbearers: Grant, Chris, Derek, Daniel and Lucas Karnes and Shelby Goodin

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be donations to The Gideon for Bibles. These can be made at the funeral home.
