Deborah Murley Keen, 73, Burkesville, KY (1950-2023)

Mrs. Deborah Murley Keen of Burkesville passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 73 years old.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11amCT on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main St., Burkesville, Kentucky. A private family committal service will be held later.

The family will receive friends after 3pmCT on Tuesday, April 4, until the funeral hour on Wednesday.


Deborah was born on Monday, March 13th, 1950, to Norman and Ruth Murley, in Glasgow, Kentucky. Attending schools in both Marrowbone and Burkesville, she was a proud graduate of Cumberland County High School, Class of 1968.

Upon graduation, she wedded her high school sweetheart Sammy Keen, in 1969, going on to have two children, Leigh(Keen) Kestranek Beevers and Andrew Keen. She was a proud resident of Cumberland County, KY, working as Secretary to the County Judge, and later, at age 25, proudly served as County Judge Pro Tem.

She later became a resident of Cookeville, Tn, where she continued to raise her children and made special friends along the way. For many years, she worked as the Activities Director at Masters Healthcare Center in Algood, TN. She lived and travelled to many different places including Lambertville, NJ, Columbia, TN, Delicias, Mexico, and Guatemala City, Guatemala. Upon retirement and a return to Cumberland County, KY, she proudly served as President of the Cumberland County Democratic Party.

Deborah is predeceased by her parents, Norman and Ruth (Butler) Murley, her sister, Norma Jo Murley and sister-in-law Jamie Teasley. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Sam Keen; her sisters, Susan Davidson (Randall), Judy Knowles (Mark), and her brother, Tim Murley (Lisa); her two children, Leigh (Keen) Kestranek Beevers (Tyler), Andrew Keen (Kristen); and her three grandchildren, Seth Kestranek, Sammy Kestranek, and Isabelle Keen. Two step-grandchildren, Christian Beevers and Shelby Beevers. Two sisters-in-law, Linda Brown (Joe David) and Barbara Murley (Jim). She loved and adored her nieces and nephews, Todd Davidson (Claudine), Joey Davidson (April), Lucas Davidson (Kelly), Brady Murley (Lacey), Joe Murley (Cara), Joshua Knowles (Sierra), Chris Murley (Kristin), Rachel McDaris (Brent), Melissa Brown Wenrich (Kellen), Courtney Brown Foley (Chris), Ian Teasley, She also leaves behind many beloved great nieces and nephews and one step great-grandchild Millie Tull.

Pallbearers include: Charlotte Cash, Charlene Anderson, Todd Davidson, Joey Davidson, Lucas Davidson, Brady Murley, Joe Murley, Joshua Knowles, Chris Murley and Ian Teasley.

The family would appreciate memorials to be sent to the Stockton Cemetery in her memory.
