Opinion: a lot of disagreements in Fiscal Court

By John Pogozelski

I just read in The Community Voice, the 9 March 2023 edition story about OUR NEWLY ELECTED Judge Executive, Mr. Larry R. Bryant and the opposition he has been receiving from some of the County Magistrates. The Magistrates main gripe, sounding somewhat child like, seems to be about nepotism and their now apparent problem in cooperating with the Judge and performance of his duties, which he WAS DULY LEGALLY ELECTED TO PERFORM; ie. stonewalling, ignoring and so forth The Judge because of his daughter VOLUNTEERING, for an UNPAID position, to help her Dad out for a couple of hours a week in his office duties, which is basically running HIS OWN ELECTED OFFICE POSITION within established guidelines as he sees fit and in the better interest of Adair County.

It sounds to me like the Magistrates disagree A LOT with The ELECTED Judge, with how he occupies, runs his office and they want to have a say in who they feel should have a say in who helps him in office. I sort of hear hushed echos of wants by certain individuals and personal desires on the very thing they are complaining about. This is how it works in Politics right ? Try to impede as much as possible the ELECTED individual from having success in the office in which one IS ELECTED INTO !

Do they want to establish and create a new position in Adair County, that will be a paid position, another burden on an already over burdened County Budget ? I did not see anything in the way of suggestions & or support for the Judge coming from any Magistrate, which suggest Magistrates temper tantrums. Holding out cooperation, unless he gets rid of his daughter, who is an EDUCATED, PROFESSIONAL WITH EXPERIENCE in a number of fields. IF the position was a paid one, then fine, complain away. Otherwise, do YOUR DUTIES as YOU were ELECTED TO DO.

Here we have a local, long established large, EDUCATED, SUCCESSFUL family with strong community ties, long standing successful, professional business relations within the County, who have stepped up to the plate in want to help improve things in Adair County. I support Mr. Bryant in wanting to have this small tax increase. The Sheriffs Dept. jail and staff definitely need financial help. And from conditions described of the inmate living conditions, it sounds like a petrie dish waiting to start filing many lawsuits over health problems that already may have, can and likely will happen in the future.

Maybe at the next election, its time to elect a few NEW MAGISTRATES ! So I hope many who read this start remembering ALL THE MAGISTRATES NAMES, and follow events and meetings involving them all.

Children throw childish temper tantrums, adults are not supposed to in the business world.
