Cross country road trip with stops in ten states

By Rebecca Montgomery

In the fall of 2022, I got the exciting opportunity to intern as a Natural Resource Management Assistant at Redwood National Park in northern California.

The job entailed field work in forests and streams throughout the park, but first I had to get to California.

Finally, a good excuse for a cross-country road trip! The journey took three weeks and spread across 10 states, with plenty of stops to see some of the many amazing sights and natural wonders along the way.

A few of my favorite photos from this journey will be linked to this story.

Writer Rebecca Montgomery, a graduate of Adair County High School, is a Class of 2020 graduate of Allegheny College with a degree in Environmental Science & Biology.

Cross Country: Bison lane, make room

Bison running at Grand Teton National Park. A few days prior to this photograph, we got caught in a "bison jam" on a road in Yellowstone National Park, where our way was blocked by a meandering bison herd. We were very thankful that the bison in this picture did not run in front of our car as we drove past.
