COLUMBIA, KY November 1, 2005The next five years at Lindsey Wilson College "will be the most exciting time this college has ever experienced."

That was the message Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. delivered at the college's annual fall trustee luncheon, held Friday, October 28, in Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.

"I believe this college is about to experience the most dramatic time period in the history of this school," Luckey told more than 135 friends and supporters of the college. "We are getting ready to take off in a way unlike what you have seen before."

One reason for the optimism, Luckey said, is because the college is "off to another amazing start."

Among this school year's accomplishments Luckey cited included:
  • This year's total enrollment is a record 1,902 students.

  • A record 747 students are living in the college's residence halls.

  • A record 502 new students were enrolled and the average score on the American College Test rose by a full point. "Usually those things don't go hand in hand," Luckey said.

  • Over the last four school years, Lindsey Wilson's total enrollment has increased by more than 46 percent, making it one of the fastest-growing private colleges in America.
Looking back on his 22 years at the college, Luckey said: "It all just kind of takes you back. It's an incredible start to the school year. No matter how you look at it, we are off to a good start."

Amazing progress on 42,000-square-foot Science Center

Luckey said that "amazing progress" continues to be made on the 42,000-square-foot Science Center, which will be open for the 2006-07 school year.

"You see the science building literally rising up out of the ground," Luckey said. "If I'm gone for two days, when I come back, I don't recognize it. I've never seen a job move more quickly, and at a faster pace. It is going to be a beautiful, enormous, fantastic facility for all of our students."

Luckey also reported that the college's "Changing Lives" campaign continues to do well. The campaign, which runs through June 30, 2007, aims to raise a minimum of $33 million.

Through October 31, the campaign has raised $31.1 million. Luckey recalled that when the college began to lay the foundation for the campaign more than three years ago, a fund-raising consultant advised college officials that Lindsey Wilson would not be able to raise more than $10-12 million.

Although the campaign is near its goal, Luckey told the audience that "we need go far beyond that because of the things we still need to do."

"So many colleges just aren't moving the way we are moving," he said. "Things aren't happening at other places the way they are here."
