Kentucky Color: Christmas Eve, 1935, Fruit Cake Comments re: Columbia Cash Store advertisement from Dec. 24, 1935 By Billy Joe Fudge I could not help but notice, cause that's what I do best it seems, that Fruit Cake was the most expensive item on the list. It was some four times more expensive than the sirloin steak. Relatively speaking, that would mean that a one pound Fruit Cake would be over $30 this Christmas, 2022. On another note and with no malice toward those who are Fruit Cake connoisseurs, I believe the last Fruit Cake I tasted was left over from Christmas Eve, 1935!
