ACHS MARCHING BAND BRINGS HOME ANOTHER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! Director Tim Allen and his ACHS Marching Band won the class AAA State Championship in the weekend competition at Franklin-Simpson By Linda Waggener linda@columbiamagazine.com Sirens and blaring horns broke through the quiet, misty Sunday afternoon in celebration of the band's superb accomplishments. Officials and Band Boosters joined in the long line of vehicles welcoming the band busses home and escorting them from the parkway down Jamestown Street, off the square on Greensburg Street to the band room at ACHS.Adair County High School Marching Band Director Tim Allen said, "we have a lot to be thankful for." As he spoke, he looked out into the smiling faces of his band members, surrounded by a standing-room-only crowd of family and friends who support them. He noted the special works of featured soloists Josh Richard, Ashton Pyles, Alan Herbst and Scarlett Willis. He told the group that one person didn't get near enough credit, the Field Commander Hillary Hadley. She was moved to tears. He thanked each band member, pointing out that it takes every one of them to accomplish something like this. His voice broke several times in the emotion of the moments as he spoke of their new trophy sitting beside him on the floor and the work it took from every one of them to attain it.When it was time to thank the supporters for their part in the weekend competition, his voice broke again as he told them he was just overwhelmed at the support. He asked if there could have been any people left in Columbia with so many having been there for the band. "Have you seen that movie, Field of Dreams?" Allen asked them, "That's what I think of every time I look back behind our semi and see that long, long line of supporters who go the distance with us." He told them to go rest. He's allowing them to take two days off, Monday and Tuesday, and then asked them to hit it hard as they prepare for Grand National Championships next month in Indianapolis. He opened the floor for comments and they included deep gratitude for his leadership. Afterward, the room full of band members and band supporters gave Tim Allen a standing ovation.
