A plaque in the hallway at the Greensburg, KY, Jane Todd Crawford Hospital honors George C. Cheatham, M.D., who grew up in Columbia and who attended Columbia and Adair County Schools.

He was the son of the late Bob and Eva Cheatham of Columbia, and the father of Lyle Cheatham, former Columbia businessman and present Mayor of Greensburg. George Cheatham was an important member of the Adair County State Tournament runners-up in 1955.

The plaque reads:

George C. Cheatham, M.D., 1936-2000

The human race has one effective weapon, and that is laughter - Mark Twain.

A graduate of University of Louisville School of Medicine, he began his lifes work in Greensburg, KY, in 1965. A physician for 35 years, he devoted his days to ushering new lives into the world and restoring health to those sick of body, heart, mind, and spirit.

An athlete himself, he served the Green County Sports program as team physician for many years and was an active member of the community. He started each day with a visit to the staff of Jane Todd Crawford Hospital, as h continued to meet the needs of his loyal patients from Green and surrounding counties.

Farewell, friend and counselor.

Presented June 2001 by the Green County Medical Society.

A color portrait of Dr. Cheatham is displayed next to the plaque.
