Preparing for the freezing temperatures

Warming center locations are available by calling 270-384-6464

By Linda Waggener

Columbia plumber and electrician Ricky Collins advises that we keep water running in all sinks and tubs during the freezing conditions expected to begin tonight.

I'd always thought about trying to save water but he says this is not a freeze that needs weak effort. Keep both hot and cold water running, a stream could be up to the diameter of a pencil.

He said a little higher water bill is still cheaper than he is if pipes freeze and burst and a plumber call is needed. He showed me how to turn off the water outside if emergency help is not close by.

Temperatures are expected to drop suddenly to below freezing and stay that way through Christmas weekend. Ricky said predictions are that it will warm up next week making this storm less damaging than when the ice and snow storm hit in recent memory that closed the parkway and kept the freeze on for a week.

Stay safe!!
