Hottest stories for comments: Rezoning, School Tax Issue

By Ed Waggener
ed@columbiamagazine.com

At least 82 comments have been appended to articles posted in the past week, and they are over a wide range of subjects.

The 82 comments do not include those added to older stories. Some of these are worth noting.

For one of the first times, a family has added a Card of Thanks to the obituary. We are pleased that the family of Raymond Huddleston used the comment section to send a Card of Thanks. We hope you will take the time to read it. Incidentally, we welcome photos and additions to the obituaries, as much for those deep in our archives as for the current stories.

Some interesting match in comments
"Lefty," who has discovered that the Western Kentucky University press release figures for Jim Richards' record as Hilltopper head basketball coach is too low. And I've just added a wonderful comment from an Adair County treasure, Peggy Brockman to that story. I hope you'll click over and see that. The highest number of comments have been related to the Rezoning Issue (35) at 503 Greensburg Street and to the School Tax Recall Petition (15).Here's how the comments this past week rank:
  1. Rezoning 503 Greensburg ST: 35
  2. School tax recall: 15
  3. Rest of the slogans: 14
  4. Musician Michael Webb Story: 7
  5. Candidates for County Judge Story: 4
  6. Letter from Angela Parks: 3
In addition there is one comment on the aerial photo by Bryan Gaskins and one on the story about the adoption of Brianna by Kevin and Sharry Burton.

The number of courteous, well-written comments has been, so far, one of the biggest rewards we've had for establishing the website. I am especially please that so many have used the website to more actively participate in the issues and opportunities facing Adair County.

And I'm grateful for those who have used the comments sections to help correct any errors of fact, grammar, syntax or spelling which may have crept into our stories. Far from resenting this, we welcome it. Fortunately, columbiamagazine.com stories aren't in stone, and re-editing can be accomplished quickly.

To check out the comments, click on "Stories Archives." The number of comments will be listed to the right of the story titles.
