Reminder: Adair Fiscal Court Regular Meeting, is tonight, Oct. 11, 2005 Dog License issue may surface tonight: Rumblings of discontent about the dog law amendment, allowing out-of-town vets to sell licenses, may raise debate. Second reading could get some "no" votes; measure could possibly be defeated. Dog owners on both sides of issue passionate. Magistrate J.M. Shelley (4) has voiced idea for sheriff/dog warden only sales of licenses. An added twist to tonight's Fiscal Court meeting is whether or not the second reading of the Amended Dog License Ordinance will pass. The Amended County Ordinance allows for sales of the dog licenses to be made outside Adair County. If approved tonight, the amendment will have passed it's final Fiscal Court test. Passions on the amendment are running high, with "buy local" advocates favoring restriction of the dog license sales to Adair County venues. Fourth District Magistrate J.M. Shelley, a Keep-the-money-at-home proponent, said on Monday, in front of God and a half-dozen coffee drinkers at Flat Woods Grocery, that he thought maybe the court ought to only allow the Adair County Sheriff and the Dog Warden to sell the licenses. At townie locations, leanings seemed to be toward allowing sales in Taylor and Russell Counties, as well as Adair, for the convenience of the pet owners. The meeting could be more interesting than Cable Tv, and it's free. It's open to the public. Generally there is ample seating, but parking on the Square can be limited when Fiscal Court is in session and there's a popular movie at the picture show.
