Adair Band sweeps Lake Cumberland Marching Invitational Click here for balance of 2005 competition schedule Band's victory is complete. Group wins every possible top award in 12-band event at Russell Springs. Band takes "all the hardware on the table" "We won every award we could possibly win," Tim Allen, Director of the Adair County Marching Band, said after the group's sweep of awards at the Lake Cumberland Marching Invitational at Russell County High School on Saturday. Boosters were happy, too. "We cleaned house," Band Booster Steve Hancock said Sunday morning. "We took all the hardware on the table." Their pride was downright modest considering the scope of the victory at the October 1, 2005 event in Russell Springs. The Adair Countians won:
But there was a bonus win. At each event, there is an award for donations made at the gate to the individual bands. "We won this one, too," he said. Twelve bands competed in the event: Class A had two bands: Cumberland County and Campbellsville. Class AA had four bands: Glasgow, Green County, Washington County, and Edmonson County. Class AAA Had two bands, Adair County and Garrard County. Class AAAA, which includes the largest bands, had four entries. They were Warren Central, Ohio County, North Laurel County, and McCreary County. Mr. Allen acknowledged the large contingent of Adair County fans present. "The stands were full of people from Adair County," he said. Kentucky's perennially top high school band travels in an impressive entourage. The caravan usually includes three school buses, one semi-truck, a gooseneck trailer, and two Mules to carry equipment onto the field. Finally, there's the awesome line of booster cars with matching signs that let's the world along the way know that champions are passing by. The band has 86 members.
