Healthy lifestyle includes a trip to Westlake Regional Hospital's Health Fair Health Fair is Saturday, October 1, 2005 at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia. By Linda Marcum Waggener linda@columbiamagazine.com Hundreds of people take advantage of the $12 health screening offered by Westlake Regional Hospital each fall. Normal costs for this would be around $300, but Westlake traditionally offers it as a service to south central Kentuckians who want to get a regular check up. There's usually a line, but I am a witness that it moves smoothly. Last Friday when I was there with the "W" group, Doris Critz and Becky Higginbotham explained that after 24 years, you continuously improve at organizing large crowds. There is still time to get blood work done, even on the day of the event. Remember to fast, water only, after midnight before you go in to get your blood drawn. From this one blood test, over 30 analyses are profiled, including: Complete Blood Count (CBC) Cholesterol and triglycerides, Colon-rectal cancer screens, Thyroid function profile, and also available is the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), a screen for prostate cancer. For more information, call 270-384-4764, or just stop in at the Westlake Primary Care across from Wal-Mart through the week, or go enjoy the event on Saturday, beginning at around 6:30 a.m. at Westlake Regional Hospital.
