Soccer: LWC Men defeat Lyon The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season over Lyon University on Monday evening as Sicelo Buthelezi picked up his first win as head coach of the Blue Raider men's soccer team. The Blue Raiders return to the pitch on Friday when they take on No. 17 Bethel (TN) on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY. Lindsey Wilson used two late goals in the 84th and 85th minutes to pull off a come-from-behind win. Despite LWC scoring the opening goal in the 2nd minute, two Lyon goal in the first half saw the Blue Raiders trailing after 45 minutes 2-1. Jaland Larmond wasted no time putting the game's first goal on the board, doing so in just the second minute. Alvaro Verwey broke into the penalty area and towards the goal line. His cross found the foot of Larmon whose initial shot crashed off the post, but the ball settled at his feet for a second attempt which crashed into the back of the goal. Martin Esquivel leveled the score just three minutes later, also making use of a second chance opportunity. Lindsey Wilson keeper Pablo Costa made the initial save on Esquivel, but unable to control the rebound, Esquivel headed home his second attempt to level the score. Lyon took the lead in the 42nd minute when Felipe Teruel received a cross from Jevanni Hinkson from the top of the 18-yard box. Teruel curved a left-footed shot past Costa. Lindsey Wilson's Bienfait Ishimwe scored his second goal of the season off a mistake by Lyon goalkeeper Dan Huff. Huff tried covering a ball to the left of his six-yard box but miss-handled the attempt. Ishimwe would gather the ball, taking two dribbles before finishing into the wide-open goal. Verwey scored on a header off a cross from Monwabisi Mngqibisa deep inside the goalkeeper's box. Mngqibisa then put the contest out of reach for their opponents just a minute later when he scored off a free kick by Alexander Koziolek. Lindsey Wilson outshot Lyon 21-14 for the match. Costa finished the contest with five saves. This story was posted on 2022-09-14 07:05:31
