Velma F. (Green) Rooks, 94, Columbia, KY native (1928-2022)

Velma F. Rooks of Taylorsville, Indiana passed away on August 24, 2022 at Millers Merry Manor in Hope, Indiana. She was 94 years old.

A funeral service will be conducted by Reverends Mark Polston, Danny Bailey, and Ken Green at 1pmET on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S Main St, Edinburgh, IN. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Calling will be from 11amET until time of service at 1pmET.


She was born May 11, 1928 in Columbia, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Reverend C. G. Green and Mary Ella (Blaydes) Green. She married James Raymond Rooks on December 23, 1944 and he preceded her in death on August 17, 2015.

She is survived by her children, Ray E. (Dianne) Rooks, Jim (Nancy) Rooks and Cathy (Brian) Simmons, son-in-law, John Wagner, grandchildren, Amy Thayer, Audrey (Phil) Westerfield, Ben (Michelle) Rooks, Adam (Jennifer) Rooks, Jill (Todd) Adams, Jayna (Brad) Brooks, Matthew (Sarah) Simmons, Beth (Cameron) McKinney, and Chris (Tammy) Morgan, 25 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, brothers, James (Naomi) Green and Carl (Freda) Green, and sisters, Mable Ruth Bryant and Eva Cooley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Jan Wagner, brothers, David Green, Paul Green, and Joseph Green, and sisters, Rachel McGaha, Annie Acree, Myrtie Green, and Flossie Campbell.

Velma was a former member of Freedom Baptist Church in Columbia, Kentucky for 14 years. She was currently a 64 year member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed time with her family, attending church, reading her Bible, walks, and was a wonderful seamstress.

Memorial contributions may be made to Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church or Alzheimers Association.
