Udell (Dick) Thornton, 84, Green Co., KY (1937-2022) Mr. Udell "Dick" Thornton passed away on Wednesday August 17, 2022, at Taylor Regional Hospital. He was 84 years old. The funeral service will be held at 11amCT on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Jacob Grove Baptist Church, 4770 Hodgenville Road, Greensburg, KY. Rev. Melvin Mills will deliver the eulogy, and Master of Ceremony will be Rev. David Mitchell. Interment will follow in Green County Memory Gardens in Summersville. Visitation is requested from 9amCT to 11amCT on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the Jacob Grove Baptist Church. Udell "Dick" Thornton was born September 14, 1937, to the Late Emmerson "Monkey" and Lucille Richardson Thornton in Summersville, Ky. He accepted Christ at an early age and Joined Jacob Grove Baptist Church where he was a faithful member and served on the usher board until his health failed him. He also worked for Summersville Elementary School as a Custodian. He was a lover of the outdoors and spent much of his free time fishing and turtle hunting until he was no longer able to do so. In his later years, his most loved activity was going to visit the sick and shut in. He loved people and always made time to show up for those who were no longer able to get out, even if just for five minutes. He was united in marriage to Carrie Dimple Thornton for sixty-one years and to this union six children were born. One son, Jeffery Lynn Thornton, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Carrie; three sons, Dwayne Thornton of Greensburg, Ky, Dale Thornton, and Chris Thornton both of Campbellsville, Ky; two daughters Angela Alexander of Phenix City, Al, and Karen Brown (Joseph) of McKinney, Texas. He is Survived by 13 Grandchildren LaTasha Blizzard (Nathan) of Camp Zama, Japan; Cynthia Thornton of Antioch, Tn; Tommy Jermaine Thornton of Radcliff, Ky; Dwayne Thornton Jr., Shatia "Tia" Thornton, Jeremy Hatcher, Shanice Bridgewater, Dayle Dondra Thornton, Austyn Thornton and Dalvian Thornton all of Campbellsville, Ky; Erika Thornton of Phenix City, Alabama; Breonah Brown and Kaleb Brown Both of McKinney Texas. 13 Great Grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; two sisters LouAnn Menefee (Nathaniel) of Fayetteville, NC, and Carolyn Thornton Shively (Bert) of Greensburg, Ky.; Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. One sister Bernice Dobson also preceded him in death. Udell "Dick" Thornton was a wonderful man who touched many lives. He was strong but gentle, he had a witty sense of humor, he was quiet but had a way about him that warmed so many hearts. He will be so deeply missed but his memory will be cherished for a lifetime.
