Adair Co. Schools one of 10 districts to share in $1 million Leadership Grant

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a 2005 School Leadership Program grant to the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) on behalf of 10 area school districts, including Adair County. The award to the GRECC is $1,058,722, and is one of only 24 given in the nation.

Superintendent of Adair County Schools Darrell Treece and Grant Writer for Adair County Schools Sammy Taylor said they are very very excited that Adair County is one of the school districts receiving this grant. "It will help the best qualified candidates to be leaders in our schools," Mr. Treece said.

The program is a new one being developed through Western Kentucky University and GRECC.

Over the next year, GRREC will recruit principal candidates from within the 10 districts who show potential as instructional leaders. These nominees will go through a screening process to determine the 20 candidates who will participate in the program.

The program curriculum will be one-third classroom based, one-third online, and one-third field based. Western Kentucky University is currently developing this new model.

The program will begin immediately.
