Woman injured, grave markers disturbed in single vehicle accident

A single vehicle accident that happened around 4:30 p.m., six miles east of Columbia at the Bearwallow Cemetery resulted in a Columbia woman being transported by Adair County EMS to Westlake Regional Hospital.

The accident sent Christa L. Rode, 74, to the hospital with possible head and leg injuries.

Rode, a resident of 225 Norman Grant Road in Columbia, was headed west on Liberty Road when she lost control of her 2001 Ford Focus in a curve, left the road and struck at least five grave markers in the Bearwallow Cemetery.

Some of the markers were broken and others were removed from their bases.

The accident was investigated by Adair County Sheriff Steve Cheatham. The Adair County Rescue Squad also responded to the accident.
