Shirley M. Giles, 86, Knifley, KY native (1936-2022)

Shirley M. Giles of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on Sunday June 5, 2022 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. She was 86 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 3pmET on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th St., Columbus, IN, with Pastor Travis Stamper officiating.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, from 1pmET until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Shirley will be laid to rest with her parents at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Columbia, KY, at 1pmCT on Thursday, June 9, 2022.


She was born March 22, 1936 in Knifley, Kentucky to the late George E. and Hallie (Arnold) Feese.

Shirley was a long-time member of the First Church of the Nazarene Church in Columbus. She worked as a beautician for many years in Edinburgh and was a realtor for 20 years. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Kerry) Utterback of Columbus, Hallie "Teri" (Ed) Short of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and Michelle L. Simpson of Columbus; her son, Mark (Debbie) Rice of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; sister, Carmy (Bob) Hess of Pennsylvania; brothers, Ed and Joe Feese of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Brian Rice, Diana Winn, Nikki Short, Becky Rice, Patricia Rice, Joseph Rice, Heather Rice, Sarah Wintek, Olivia Burton, Levi England, Hannah England, Colton Utterback and Cole Hartwell; numerous great-grandchildren as well as her former husband of 20 years, Osbert Simpson. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sons, Joseph Dwayne and David Randall Rice and a brother, David Feese.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
