Foster Care Month in Columbia

By Tiffany Collins

May was Foster Care Month in Columbia as the result of a proclamation issued by City Mayor Pamela Hoots. The proclamation recognizes the over 400,000 children in the United States that are in the foster care program, and the importance of foster care in our community.

The proclamation wants to encourage support for those caregivers and to recognize those working in the foster care program.

Mary Howard and Diane West joined Mayor Hoots for the signing of the proclamation on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Diane West has been working with the local foster care families for around nine years and serves on the state board for Fostering Futures, Kentucky Foster and Care Association. West has adopted five and foster nineteen during her tenure with the program. Howard is just starting working with foster care.

West invites anyone interested in fostering children to contact her on Facebook Messenger.
