Veterans banner project celebrated in special event

A special Memorial Day Celebration to remember Veterans and announce the names of all who have had flags hung downtown was held Friday, May 27, 2022 in front of City Hall.

Mayor, Pam Hoots gave the welcome and opening remarks. Presentation of Colors was done by VFW Post # 6097. Prayer was led by US Army Veteran, Aaron Labarge, Family Pastor, Columbia Baptist Church. The Pledge was led by Boy Scout Troop # 185.

Remarks were given by retired Major US Marines, Paul Smith. Names of the first group of Banner Honorees were read by members of the DeMolay Group as follows:

Memorial Day celebration kicked off weekend

The 2022 Memorial Day weekend of remembering was kicked off with a celebration in front of City Hall to mark the installation of the first of downtown Columbia's Veteran's flags. Mayor Pam Hoots opened the Friday morning meeting and introduced the Presentation of Colors by VFW Post # 6097. A prayer was led by US Army Veteran, Aaron Labarge, Family Pastor, Columbia Baptist Church. Remarks were given by Retired Major US Marines, Paul Smith.

Scout Troop 185 leads Pledge in ceremony

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Boy Scout Troop # 185 at the Friday Memorial Service at City Hall. Scout participant Jayden Campbell was there with his dad, David Campbell.

Honoring James E. Abell

The family of U.S. Army Veteran James E. Abell gathered for the Memorial Day event and reading of all the names of the Banner Honorees Friday at City Hall. After the brief ceremony and refreshments, they were going to have their picture made underneath the banner honoring him.
