Tennis: LWC Women blank Red Wolves to open NAIA play By Kyle Jackson Mobile, AL - No. 9-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis opened NAIA Championship play today with a 4-0 win over No. 24-seed IU East (IN) at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Blue Raiders (22-3) advance to Wednesday's second round against No. 8-seed Middle Georgia State at 1pmCT. Lindsey Wilson captured the doubles point and three singles matches to advance. Darija Mladenovic and Anastasiia Ivanchenko began the day by winning the third-seeded doubles match. The Blue Raider duo defeated Mackenzie Cook and Sophie Wilkinson 6-0. Alexandra Parra and Lucia Mora locked up the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Linda Marino and Camila Caballero. Parra and Mora improve to 14-2 this season as a tandem with the win. Needing just three singles wins to advance, the Blue Raiders did just that. Salome Sposetti started the singles wins with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Laura Billing to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 team lead. Sposetti improves to 19-0 and remains undefeated this season in singles play. Ivanchenko picked up the second singles win of the day for the Blue Raiders after taking down Mackenzie Cook 6-0, 6-1. Lucia Mora sealed the win for the Blue Raiders with her 59th career win in the third-seeded match. She defeated Caballero 7-5, 6-2 to improve to 59-13 all-time -- including 18-5 this season. Mora is now only two wins away from matching Candela Castanon's program-record 61 singles wins. The remainder of the matches were halted once Lindsey Wilson reached the four points necessary for the team win. This story was posted on 2022-05-17 20:02:48
