Rogers encourages scholars to be original thinkers, problem solvers, leaders Chelsea Luckey and Jacob Edwards of Adair County were elected to a committee to be involved in planning future Rogers Scholars events, reunions and curriculum. SOMERSET, KY The Center for Rural Development in Somerset announced that the first Saturday in August will be dedicated to graduates of the Rogers Scholars program at a recent luncheon. The luncheon marked the first annual Battle of the Scholars Rogers Scholars Reunion. The 2005 reunion was an exciting afternoon full of crazy games, fun and great prizes. Fifth District Congressman Hal Rogers, for whom the program was named, was keynote speaker. Leadership is what the program is all about so I encourage each and every one of you to be original thinkers, problem solvers and explorersthe qualities of a true leader, said Rogers. The luncheon also served as a gathering to elect a Rogers Scholars Alumni Committee. The committee was created in order to give alumni the opportunity to be instrumental in planning future Rogers Scholars events, reunions and curriculum. The following members were elected based on nominations and resulting ballot: Cory Gearlds of Monroe County, Michelle Combs of Laurel County, Amy Puerto, Molly Merrick, and Sarah Todd of Pulaski County, Kala Means of Wayne County, Michael Oghia of Breathitt County, Chelsea Luckey and Jacob Edwards of Adair County, and Danielle Williams of Taylor County. This annual event will be held in different parts of The Centers 42-county service region in order to make it possible for those in other areas to attend.
