Lucas David Smith, 50, Cumberland Co., KY (1971-2022)

Lucas David Smith passed away on December 28, 2021. He was 50 years old.

A private family burial has taken place at Fudge Cemetery in Breeding, KY.


Lucas David Smith was born April 9, 1971, at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro NC to the late Donnie Dee Smith and JoAnne Furkins Smith. He passed into his Heavenly home on December 28, 2021.

Luke enjoyed his time as an Air Force brat, which allowed his family to live in various places all around the US, with Alaska and North Dakota being favorites. When the family returned home to Burkesville KY after his dad's retirement, he attended Cumberland County HS, from where he graduated in 1989.

After graduation, Luke enlisted in the US Army. He spent 3 years in service to our country, including deployment to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during the Gulf War. Following his honorable discharge, he attended the University of Kentucky before enrolling at Lexington Electronics Institute where earned certification in electronic technology. Later, he earned a BS in Christian Studies.

Surviving family include sister and brother-in-law Melissa and Kirk Melby of Laurel MT and their children Kyle and Erin, aunt and uncle Connie and Roger Arms of Marrowbone KY, uncle Harry Furkins of Antioch TN, several cousins, and cherished family friend and mentor Lawrence Vincent of Glasgow, KY
