By Ed Waggener
Figures derived from May 04 Kentucky Labor Force Estimates, preliminary June 2005

Adair County's unemployment rate, 5.4% for June, 2005, was up from May of this year, 5.1%, and up over the figures for June 2004, 4.8%. Still there was some relatively good news in the figures just released from the state.

Adair County's rate was:
  • The best in the 10-county Lake Cumberland Area Development District.
  • Better than the statewide average of 6.0%
  • And good enough for second place among the 7-County Adair and Surrounding Counties area. Only Metcalfe County, at 5.2%, had lower unemployment than Adair County.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled tomeasure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian laborforce statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians whoare actively seeking work. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians whohave not looked for employment within the past four weeks. The statistics inthis news release are not seasonally adjusted to allow for comparisonsbetween United States, state and counties figures.
