Lanterns & Tombstones Tours to begin April 1, 2022 A new historical event in Columbia and Adair County is coming April 1, 2022. Those with an interest in the history and development of the area will wish to become involved. The idea originated with Dave Thomas and, joined by Mike Watson, has evolved quickly into a proposed once-a-month tour. Using the annual Silent City Tour as a starting point, the two plan to lead tours on the first Friday evening each month, in conjunction with Columbia's To-the-Nines downtown shopping event. Lanterns & Tombstones tours will wind through the historic Columbia Cemetery with historical personalities and events highlighting the walks. Each month the narrative will differ, with new and added points of local interest. The first Lanterns & Tombstones Tour will be held at 7pmCT on Friday, April 1, 2022. Those interested are asked to meet in the Justice Center parking lot by the appointed time. The tour will leave from this spot and proceed through the cemetery. This new event is supported by the Adair Heritage Association, Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, Adair County Genealogical Society, and the Adair County Public Library. There is no charge for these events, but donations will graciously be accepted. For more information: Mike Watson at 270-380-1024 or adairgenealogy@gmail.com.
