An all too frequent problem: Phones out AGAIN in Bliss, Gradyville area Area has had off-and-on service thus far in July Alltel has not yet offered to send reduced bills without red tape UPDATE July 28, 2005: 8:00 a.m. check found phone service restored By Ed Waggener Our phones are out again in the Bliss and Gradyville area. A large section of Alltel's service area from just west of the J.M. Shelley place on the Edmonton Road has been without land-line telephone service this afternoon. The outage was first noticed at this location, 3041 Edmonton Road, at around 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 27 2005. The Alltel automated service call 800-347-1991 reported an area outage. The customer service center voice said that Alltel is working on the problem. A similar problem has plagued the area, off-and-on, since June 30, 2005. Alltel has not yet offered to reduce bills because of the service outages, unless very patient customers follow an involved procedure few would find worthwhile. The area affected reaches the KY 80 bridge over Big Creek on the west side of Gradyville. West of that bridge, land line telephone service is provided by Duo-County Telephone cooperative and is not directly affected. Cell phones work. And a few people in the area are able to communicate with email. Otherwise communications with and within the area are dismal. This ColumbiaMagazine.com story is coming from 3041 Edmonton Road, but carried by RareyNet (CKIC), a wireless service. My email, ed@epwbooks.com is over the same system, and we can be contacted at that email address. This story was posted on 2005-07-27 14:59:47
