Carol Richards, 74, Russell County, KY (1948-2022)

Carol Hudson Richards, beloved daughter, sister, mother, step-mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and caring wife died peacefully March 10, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was 74 years old.

After living several years in Indiana as a young adult, Carol moved back to her treasured Russell County and met her future husband, Dwight (Smiley) Richards. Dwight and Carol enjoyed 46 years of devoted marriage and shared their love of the outdoors as well as their commitment to faith and family. She retired after working 31 years at the Lake Cumberland State Park. She loved bringing joy to the many visitors to the park and was considered a hard-worker among her colleagues, many of whom became close, cherished friends over the years.

Carol was devout in her faith throughout her life and was a long-time member of Jamestown First Baptist Church where she happily volunteered her time to the youth program and always greeted the children with a smile and enjoyed cooking for their activities.

Carol was born on January 7, 1948, to Hollis and Orpha Wooten Hudson, a farming family in Russell Springs. Carol was the third of six children, all of whom were taught the value of hard work, honesty, family, faith, and community.

Carol is survived by her husband Dwight (Smiley) Richards; son Charles Kimbler from Avon Lake, OH; daughter Debbie Warriner from Anderson, Indiana; step-son Dwight W. Richards (Vickie) of Jamestown; sister Sharon Warriner of Russell Springs; brother Ronald Hudson (Charlotte) of Russell Springs; brother Timothy Hudson (Jeannie) of Russell Springs; as well as six grandchildren and six great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by father James Hollis Hudson, mother Orpha Wooten Hudson, sister Kathyrn Perez, brother Archie Lee Coffey, brother-in-law Rufus Junior Warriner, sister-in-law Darlene Coffey, and grandson Justin Lee Warriner.

Funeral services will be at 1pmCT on Monday, March 14, at Jamestown First Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Russell officiating. Visitation will take place at the church for family only from 9-10am and 10-1 for the public that same day. Interment will be in Ridge Crest Cemetery. H.E. Pruitt Funeral Home is coordinating all arrangements. Pallbearers will be Eric Warriner, Joshua Warriner, Daryn Warriner, Jared Flatt, Kenny Hammond, and Russell Anteau.
