Columbia native believes We dont realize what we have right here at home

By Beverly Redmon

People tend to take their own surroundings for granted. Have you ever realized that you will drive for miles to see beautiful mountains, the changing colors of fall, or to go to an amusement park? Why do we do this when all of those things are right here, within minutes to two hours of Columbia and most of the state?

Kentucky has some of the most beautiful and majestic nature scenes of anywhere that you could go. We have beautiful rolling hills and gorgeous mountains that would take your breath away. Adair County itself can be appreciated for all of its natural beauty. Whether you drive around or go out on Green River Lake, you appreciate the beauty of it in the summertime and the beauty of the trees surrounding the lake in the fall are beyond description.

If you are looking for an amusement park, take the family to Beech Bend in Bowling Green. Its only about an hour and a half away and is something the whole family can enjoy. I took my family there for a day and by the time we left we had enjoyed ourselves immensely and were completely exhausted. The park is family oriented, clean and the lines are never very long. They have a water park suited for all ages from babies to grandparents. They have go carts, kiddie rides as well as rides for older children and adults.
