Baseball: LWC returns to conference play this weekend

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team returns to Mid-South Conference play this weekend when they host Thomas More (KY) in a three-game series starting Friday afternoon. First pitch on Friday at Egnew Park is scheduled for 3pmCT, while the doubleheader on Saturday will begin at NoonCT.

The Blue Raiders (11-5, 2-1 MSC) enter the series after facing a tough 16-2 loss midweek against No. 7 IU Southeast.


Lindsey Wilson remains one of the top offensive teams in the MSC, leading the conference in total runs with 153, second in hits with 180, and second in RBIs with 126. In addition to that, the team is also producing an on-base percentage of .462, ranking first in the conference and a slugging percentage of .524, ranking second. Gabe Board conducts the offense with his team-leading 31 hits, second-most in the conference, 18 RBIs, tied for fourth-most in the MSC with Lucas Bault, and six stolen bases. The Blue Raiders currently feature three hitters all ranked in hitting percentage in the conference with Board at second with a .477, Chance Stayton at fifth with a .460, and Bault in eighth with a .422.

On the pitching side, the team ranks third in strikeouts with 128 while producing a 7.36 ERA. Cohen Achen has tossed 24 innings and recorded 34 strikeouts, the most in the conference, for a 1.13 ERA, ranking second in the MSC.

As for Thomas More, (7-5, 1-1 MSC) they enter the series after splitting with Cumberland (TN) on Feb. 25-26. The Saints dropped game one 6-3 but bounced back in game two, winning 5-4.

The Saints have scored a total of 80 runs so far this season on 103 hits with 73 RBIs. Offensively, they're led by Gavin Pearson who has 12 runs on the year while Pearson, Casey Nowak, Bailey Martin, and Brady Baldock each have 12 hits. Both Baldock and Jacob Caruso lead the side in RBIs with 12 while Martin has four stolen bases.

On the pitching side, the Saints have recorded 75 strikeouts while producing a 4.18 ERA, the third-best in the MSC. Landen Scott leads the team and has worked through 26 - 1/3 innings and recorded 24 strikeouts, ranking sixth for a 1.71 ERA, the fourth-best in the MSC.
