Leola Gardner Smith, 90, Edmonton, KY (1931-2022)

Leola Mae Gardner Smith of Edmonton passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 in Glasgow. She was 90 years old.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 1pmCT on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East St., Edmonton, KY. Interment will follow in the Edmonton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3pmCT until 8pmCT on Thursday, and will continue after 9amCT on Friday at the funeral home.


She was born August 15, 1931 in the Alone community of Metcalfe County to the late Lewis and Bessie Pearl Poynter Gardner. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three children. Tommy, David "Bo", and Mary Lou Jessie. Two grandchildren. Mark Smith and Lisa Smith. Also, several brothers and sisters.

Leola was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker and retired from SKF Industries after over 30 years in Glasgow.

Leola will be remembered for her quick wit and her ability to say things that she knew would embarrass those around her for a good laugh. Leola was a true matriarch being the mother of eight children who where always there for her.

Leola is survived by five children. Joe Smith, Faye (Dannie) Word, Patricia "Prissy" White, Brenda Smith all of Edmonton. Bonnie (Milt) Harbour of Mississippi. A brother Verlon Gardner of Florida. Sisters, Betty Poynter and Ruby Scott both of Indiana. Two loving sisters in laws. Margaret Hensley and Grace Dugger both of Edmonton.
