Judge Vaughan returns with $5,000 more than expected from PRIDE Adair County grant raised to $55,000 Columbia receives $25,000, as expected A.L. Sinclair, Columbia, KY, Executive Committee Secretary of PRIDE, and a board member, reported that Adair County received $5,000 more than had been originally expected at the PRIDE board meeting at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset on Wednesday, July 13, 2005. Secretary Sinclair motored to the meeting with Adair County Judge Executive Jerry Vaughan, where Judge Vaughan accepted a check for $55,000 on behalf of the Adair County Fiscal Court This amount brought the total received in Adair County to $80,000. As expected, the City of Columbia received $25,000. The city had applied for $50,000. It was a first time application, according to City Clerk Carolyn Edwards, and the actual award of $25,000 was cause for great joy in City Hall. Mrs. Edwards is coordinator for the City of Columbia PRIDE clean-up drives. Mr. Sinclair said that Adair County's larger than expected grant was because the Adair County effort has fulfilled and exceeded expectations in past cleanup drives. "They always meet their goals," he said. The grants are not automatic. Campbellsville had applied for $100,000 and did not receive a grant this year. Failure to complete an earlier program was cited as the reason for the declination. The PRIDE organization was co-founded in 1997 by Congresssman Hal Rodgers and General James Bickford. It serves a 38-county area. This story was posted on 2005-07-19 04:02:33
