Cyrus sends item about the Paull Packard By Cyrus Central Ohio Bureau Chief From the front page of the May 29, 1946 Adair County News: Paull Packard Will Participate In Parade At Indianapolis Speedway The present owners, Paul Young and Earl Conover, are in Indianapolis and will drive the car in the parade. Accompanying will be Edwin Hutchison and Mrs. Young. All will be the guests of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, sponsors of the parade, and they will be attired in costumes appropriate to the year in which the Packard was purchased. According to Mr. Young the only other 1916 Packard Twin Six touring car known to be in existence today is in the Ford Museum and could not be used in the parade due to lack of usable tires. The locally owned car was taken to Indianapolis by truck last week. Other cars which will participate in the parade are: 1896 Roberts Electric, 1900 Oldsmobile, 1904 White Steamer, 1908 EMF and Buick, 1910 Ford and 1913 Chevrolet. ***** Does anyone know the whereabouts of this fine old automobile or who the current owner(s) might be? An ad for the 1916 Packard Twin Six (may be viewed at ) indicates there were two models, the 1-25 & the 1-35, each available with open or closed body, with a total of 22 different styles. For those of us who possess a wide penurious streak, it should be pointed out that the open body 1-25 (any style) cost $2,750, while the pricier 1-35 open body (any style) cost $3,150. (These prices were f.o.b Detroit.) In today's money, the cost would about $50,000 & $57,500, respectively -- plus title, tax and transfer, of course.
