Frank Marshall Newby, 79, Russell Springs, KY (1942-2022)

Frank "Big Marshall" Newby of Russell Springs passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Russell County Hospital emergency room. He was 79 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Ricky Shirley officiating. Burial will follow in Holt Cemetery in Russell County, with full military honors presented by VFW Post 6097.

Visitation is requested after NoonCT on Friday.


He was born April 16, 1942, in the Crocus community of Adair County, to the late Samuel Newby and Nina Iris Hunter Newby. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ann Newby and a sister. He lived the majority of his life in Russell County other than when he served in the military, which took him overseas.

Frank retired from IMO Pump, Inc. after 30 years, and he was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church of Adair County.

Survivors include:
  • One son - Frank R. B. Newby of Columbia
  • Two daughters - Cheryl (Eric) Bell of Jamestown and Moneak (Jeff) Edwards of Indiana
  • Two men he considered as his very own sons - Anton Newby of Lexington and Jordan Nixon of Columbia
  • Two brothers - Marvin Newby, his best friend and Samuel David Newby
  • Four sisters - Irene, Patricia, Jeanna and Angela
  • Two grandchildren - Rhyann Edwards and Mannix Bell
  • A host of nieces and nephews, brothers-in law and sisters-in law
Frank will be missed by his family and friends.
