Local Insurance man Edgar Reed honored

A recent local history article brought to mind Edgar Reed, the founder of Reed Brothers Insurance Company in Columbia. Dan Antle, present owner, worked through family and sent us the photos that accompany this historic news about an honor Mr. Reed received.

May 2, 1945: Edgar W. Reed, well-known insurance man of Reed Bros. Agency, this city,who represents The Continental Insurance Company, of the America FireInsurance and Indemnity Group, has just been presented with thecompany's gold medal, a token of more than twenty-five yearsrepresentation of the company.

The medal was given by State Agent C. P. Thurman, fieldman for theContinental, and accompanied by a letter from President Bernard M.Culver, which said:

"It is with great pleasure that I and my associates welcome you into the'Old Guard'--that Association of loyal agents and company employees whohave been connected with the companies of the America Fire Group forover twenty-five years.

"Our Company has grown and prospered during the period of yourassociation with us, and we wish to acknowledge your contribution to thissuccess.

We thank you for your loyalty and sincerely trust that your splendidrepresentation of this company will continue for many years to come."

Mr. Edgar W. Reed died December 3, 1950, at age 55.
