Travel: Mill Springs Battlefield in Nancy, KY "The Mill Springs Battle was both the first decisive battle for the Union, and was also the least known..." By Aquinna Allen, Lindsey Wilson College student writer Want to see some of the sites of Kentucky? Perhaps learn some Kentucky history? The state of Kentucky has several different historical locations one can visit, such as battlefields, historical monuments, or buildings that one can go to that are not all that far away from campus. One location that may be of interest to some, especially those who have an interest in the Civil War, is the Mill Springs Battlefield Visitor Center & Museum in Nancy, KY. This battlefield was the place of a Union victory, one of many that led the Union to win the Civil War. It is a small building but when you go in you are offered to watch a short history video about the battle and the events leading up to it, only a 10-15 minute watch. After that you can go and see the museum part of the building, there you can have weapons, uniforms, flags, and more to read up on and be more informed about. When asking one of the employees what he would like to say to students to encourage them to come, he brought up that the Mill Springs Battle was both the first decisive battle for the Union, and was also the least known. Also, that coming there was a way to learn more about Kentucky's history. He finished off by saying, "Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it." So if you are interested in the Civil War or even just the state of Kentucky's history, going to the Mill Springs Battlefield is an interesting trip, and the whole event is only an hour long.
