Pollock sworn in, named to key House committees

By Atley Smedley, LRC

Frankfort, KY - Newly elected Representative Sarge Pollock was sworn in on the first day of Kentucky's legislative session in 2022. House Speaker David Osborne also announced that Pollock will serve on the Agriculture, Banking and Insurance, and Tourism and Outdoor Recreation committees during the 2022 Regular Session.

Pollock represents the 51st House District, which includes all of Adair and Taylor Counties. He hopes to bring a conservative, common-sense approach to Frankfort, focusing on protecting God-given freedoms and liberties. Growing up on a multi-generational farm raising beef cattle and hogs, agriculture is a big part of Pollock today. The lessons learned in the field, conservative values, and our Kentuckian way of life continue to be guiding principles in all that he does.

"I'm thankful for this opportunity to collaborate alongside leaders in Frankfort so we can continue to foster growth and positive change throughout the Commonwealth," said Pollock. "Each of these assignments reflects the priorities of my district, and now I'm ready to find new ways we can better meet the needs of Kentucky's tourism industry, agricultural community, and individuals' capital."

The House Agriculture Committee deals with matters that pertain to crops, livestock, poultry, and their marketing; tobacco; stockyards; agricultural cooperatives and marketing associations; agriculture weights and measures (including those used in grocery stores); veterinarians, the state and county fairs; and amusement parks.

As a member of the Banking and Insurance Committee, Pollock will work to keep personal funds safe through the regulation of banks and trust companies, and various insurance agencies. Tourism and Outdoor Recreation members oversee legislation dealing with tourism, travel promotion, fish and wildlife, hunting and fishing, boating, and horseback riding. The committee also addresses issues like laws that apply to billboards, recreational land use, and all-terrain vehicles.

"Sarge brings a wealth of experience to the legislature and I appreciate his willingness to serve on these committees," said Speaker Osborne. "He knows firsthand the challenges our farm families face, understands the complexities of the banking and insurance industries, and appreciates the role tourism plays in our state's economy."

The Kentucky General Assembly convened for the 2022 Regular Session on January 4. While the state budget will dominate the agenda, the House Majority Caucus is expected to devote substantial time crafting legislation that strengthens the Commonwealth's economy and addresses the significant impact the pandemic has had.
