James and Dolly Riley enjoy gardening with grandchildren James and Dolly Riley have a great garden on their property in the Longhunters subdivision of Columbia. This spring, they had strawberries enough to sell after making sure the family was supplied. We planted them for the grandchildren, Dolly said, they come over, help us pick and nibble, and get the red juice all over their clothes, but its great fun! Kassidy, age 5, and Riley, age 2, are the little ones for whom the garden grows. They are the children of Ricky and Sonya Roy of Columbia. James is in construction work and Dolly is employed at Fruit of the Loom in Jamestown. In their free time, when their grandchildren arent with them, they put their energies into planting and weeding the large garden, knowing that when Kassidy and Riley come over again, harvesting together will be worth all the work. James says he is looking to retire and may be expanding the garden next year. Dolly says that Fruit of the Loom gives them no word on their future, and unless another Army order comes through the work may not be there to keep the jobs going. If she retires along with James, we can look for many more strawberries next season! This story was posted on 2005-06-06 18:55:13
