Mechelle Denise Giles, 57, Columbia, KY (1964-2021) Mechelle Denise (Patton) Giles of Columbia passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at her home. She was 57 years old. There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Giles at 1pmCT/2pmET on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the Mt. Zion Church of God, 1640 Eastridge Cemetery Rd, Columbia, KY. Bro. Alex Cox will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Caldwell Chapel Cemetery in Adair County. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, November 20, from 10amCT/11amET until time for the service. Mrs. Mechelle Denise Giles of Columbia, daughter of Shirley (Watson) Patton and the late Bobby Patton, was born in Casey County on May 8, 1964. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Mt. Zion Church of God. Mrs. Giles was a homemaker, and the cherished wife of Timothy J. Giles, who survives. On September 14, 2021, Mechelle became the first woman in the world to receive an Aeson artificial heart. Giving first acknowledgement to God, her family would also like to thank UofL Health - Jewish Hospital, CARMAT, and Drs. Mark Slaughter and Siddharth Pahwa and their teams, for their professionalism and care. Because of them, she was able to enjoy family shopping trips to Walmart and other average, ordinary things again. Mechelle always hoped something could be learned from her experience that may help others with similar conditions, and her family continues to champion research. L.R.
