Soccer: LWC Men Capture MSC Tournament Championship By Kyle Jackson Bowling Green, KY - The No. 11-ranked and overall seed Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Cumberlands (KY) 2-0 to win the 2021 Mid-South Conference tournament Friday afternoon. The Blue Raiders (13-2-2, 10-1 MSC) capture their 15th overall title and secure the title for the first time since 2019. Lindsey Wilson outshot the Patriots 22-10 with an 8-2 shot on goal mark. Mid-South Conference Play of the Year, Nathaniel Opoku was the hero on the day scoring two late goals to push his total to 18 on the season. Monwabisi Mngqibisa and Alexander Koziolek both notched assists in the match as Koziolek captured his 10th assist on the season and Mingqibisa records his second of the year. Lindsey Wilson were in control for portions of the first half as they outshot the Patriots 10-4. It was a heated contest with 21 fouls in the opening 45 minutes. While there were plenty of shots, the goals were lacking for both teams as they headed into the halftime break at 0-0. Much of the second half was like the first as both teams were wary of making a mistake. The Blue Raiders finally got the breakthrough goal from Opoku in the 83rd minute as he hit a shot outside the box beating the goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. Things got even sweeter for the Blue Raiders in the 87th minute as Opoku got his head on the end of a Koziolek free kick on the edge of the box to make it 2-0. The Blue Raiders now await their seed in the NAIA National Tournament. The selection show will take place on Monday, November 15 at NoonCT. This story was posted on 2021-11-13 10:30:28
