A distress signal to memorize to help others

A silent signal allowed a missing 16-year-old girl to be rescued. The story went viral since the event last week and it's one to remember. The hand signal to memorize has three steps: palm up, thumb tucked, fingers covering the thumb.

The signal, created by the Canadian Women's Foundation, is the hand signal that the missing teen flashed through the car window toward passing cars.

The girl was able to demonstrate the silent signal to someone who had also seen it on the social media website TicToc and recognized that she was possibly giving a signal she was in danger.

The person who recognized it, called 911, the sheriff pulled the car over and learned the girl's parents had reported her missing a couple of days prior.
