Football: LWC travels to face Pikeville Saturday

The No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team begins a short road trip as they travel to face Pikeville (KY) on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30pmCT at Hambley Athletic Complex.

The Blue Raiders (6-0, 3-0 MSC) enter the game after a second consecutive shutout performance, defeating No. 13 Georgetown (KY) 35-0.


The Lindsey Wilson defense had a spectacular day, holding the Tigers to only 113 total offensive yards. Luke Bowman led the way for the Blue Raider's defense as he recorded a team-high 12 tackles, two and a half sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception that he returned for 45 yards. For his efforts, Bowman was named Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

On the offensive side of the ball, Cameron Dukes recorded 189 passing yards along with two touchdowns. On the ground, Jaylen Boyd led the pack with 59 yards and a touchdown. Logan Collier, Dimitrius Patterson, and D'Mauriae VanCleave all received a touchdown pass from Dukes in the victory.

Ian Sauter led the special teams, hitting all five of his extra point attempts and averaging 37.8 yards per punt in his outing. Sauter was named MSC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance.

As for the Bears (2-4, 0-3 MSC), they enter the match on a three-game losing streak. In their last outing, they fell 44-13 to Bethel (TN).

Pikeville is led offensively by Lee Kirkland with 1,122 passing yards and nine touchdowns on the season. Running back Alex Sanders leads the team with 427 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Arities Clark has been the primary target for Kirkland with a team-high 234 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

On the defense for the Bears, Alexander Carmichael and Jonathan Morton led the team with 41 tackles each. Ivan Sledge has been a handful for opposing offensive lines with a team-high 4 sacks this season and Cedrick Thomas leads the Bears with two interceptions.

Lindsey Wilson is perfect against Pikeville, leading the all-time series 8-0.
