Teresa Roy is Salvation Army Volunteer of the Year

The Adair County Unit of the Salvation Army held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Tea on April 13. Teresa Roy, a teacher at Col. Wm. Casey Elementary, was honored as "Volunteer of the Year" for her work with the primary students of Casey Elementary in fundraising efforts for tsunami disaster relief.


Ms. Roy and her Primary 3 class challenged not only her school, but all Adair County schools in this effort. They were very successful! Her class raised $366 and Casey Elementary raised over $1,870!

A special 'Thank You' to everyone who contributed to the Salvation Armytsunami disaster relief. All local donations totaled $3,010.88.

Those attending, and recognized for volunteer efforts and receiving a certificate and official 'red bell' are: Teresa Roy, Paula Garrison, LisaRucker, Kim McGaha, Mikki Page, Dina Meyers, Debbie Cowan, Jaime Feese, Ellen Zornes and Bill Davenport.

The Salvation Army would also like to say a very heartfelt "Thank You" toall the many, many volunteers who help make our community the very best by giving generously of their time and assets to help in efforts such as the Christmas Angel Tree, Christmas Kettles, Summer Camp, Community Welfare Assistance and Disaster and Relief efforts. Without you, the Salvation Army could not survive and could not serve our community.

The Salvation Army is a nationally recognized Christian charitable organization. Locally our focus is meeting the needs of our community through various programs. Its officers and committee chairs for the 2005 year are: Lisa Rucker, Chair; Gerald Reliford, Vice Chair; Jaime Feese,Secretary; Kim McGaha, Welfare Secretary; Mikki Page, Treasurer; Debbie Cowan, Angel Tree Committee Chair; Bill Davenport, Disaster Committee Chair; Marsha Walker, Christmas Kettle Committee Chair and Ellen Zornes, Summer Camp Committee Chair.

The Adair County Unit meets the first Wednesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the basement of the Courthouse Annex. If you are interested in becoming a member, please feel free to contact any of the officers or committee chairs or come to our next meeting, Wednesday, May 4.
