James R. Propes, 77, Adair Co., KY native (1944-2021) James R. Propes of Dunnville passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was 77 years old. The funeral service will be held at 11amET on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville St, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Johnny Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5pmET to 8pmET on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Mr. Propes' family requests that all in attendance please wear a mask to the visitation and funeral. Born on August 4, 1944, in Adair County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late James Welby and Mary Frances Bryant Propes. James was a guard at Tarter Gate, a diesel mechanic, insurance salesman, hotel manager, hauled gates, and even owned his own fishing store. Above all of these, he was a proud, loyal, and dedicated firefighter. As #306 at Dunnville Fire Department he served as engineer, treasurer, and board member. He was also #1516 at Evona Fire Department where he also served as a board member. James loved hunting and fishing. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by three daughters, Shirley (Stewart) Carlton of Madison, Alabama, Sherry (Anthony) Roberts of Windsor, and Susan (Gordon) Wilkerson of Dunnville; his longtime companion, Janet Helm of Dunnville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and twenty-one step great-grandchildren. Other survivors include three sisters, Carol Owens of Dunnville, Sharon Lee of Lawrenceburg, and Neva Woods of Lawrenceburg. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Margie Ann Lay. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dunnville or Evona Fire Department. Pallbearers will be his fellow firefighters. Arrangements are entrusted to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. An online guestbook is available at www.mckinneybrown.com.
