James Tarter (Jimmy) Akin, 79, Columbia, KY (1942-2021)

James Tarter "Jimmy" Akin of Columbia passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital in London, KY. He was 79 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY with burial to follow in Haven Hill Cemetery.

The family requests visitation on Monday, August 9, from 5pmCT until 8pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home.

The family requests all visitors to wear a facial covering.


Jimmy was born on March 20, 1942 in Adair County, KY to the late Jerome and Ethel Tarter Akin. He was a retired employee of CSX Transportation, a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Army Veteran. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Akin and one sister Shirley Miller.

Survivors Include:
  • One Son- James Scott Akin (Peggy) of Livingston, KY
  • One Daughter- Allison Jones (Jay) of London, KY
  • One Sister- Jane Akin Keltner of Columbia, KY
  • Four Grandchildren- Gus Akin, Mallory Judd, Kaitlyn Mullins (Sam) and Allie Jones
  • One Great Grandson- Jameson Mullins
  • Special niece and nephews- Suzanne Rogers, Pat Miller, Jeff Miller, and Bradley Miller
  • A host of other relatives and friends
