FBI investigating Anthrax threat to Jamestown City Hall

The FBI has taken charge of an investigation into an Anthrax letter which caused alarm the first of the week in Jamestown. Acting Chief of Police Jeff Kerns said that the Jamestown City Hall and Police Department was closed down Monday and employees were evacuated and decontaminated after receiving a letter threatening that the envelope contained Anthrax.

The letter, which was postmarked from out of state, was sent to the Kentucky State Police crime lab for testing. Word was received early Tuesday morning that preliminary results were negative and Chief Kerns said that work began then to return to normal.

The investigation will continue with the FBI and United States Postal inspectors in charge.
