Firework safety information from Campbellsville Fire - Rescue

By Chief Chris Taylor
Campbellsville Fire - Rescue

As the July 4th holiday weekend is rapidly approaching, I want to remind you of some common-sense safety tips while you celebrate. We want you to have a fun and safe season. Be safe with fireworks (preferably leave it to the professionals), wear your lifejacket on the water and drive safely.

Firework Safety Information
The numbers speak for themselves. According the National Safety Council (CPSC) last year 15,600 people were treated in Emergency Rooms for firework injuries. 18 people lost their lives. 66% of those injuries occurred around the July 4th holiday and 1,600 were firecracker-related and 900 were sparkler-related.

Campbellsville Firework Ordinance Information
A new ordinance was introduced in May 2021 by the Campbellsville City Council describing the use of fireworks in the Campbellsville City Limits.

Please note that fireworks, as defined in KRS 227.702 (2) and (3) shall be utilized at least 200 feet from any home, structure, vehicle or any other person.

Please read the new ordinance at www.campbellsvillefire.com/fireworks for all the information pertaining to fireworks in City of Campbellsville.

Water Safety Information
If your weekend plans include being in or around the water, please remember to wear your lifejacket. 86% of drowning victims were not wearing life jackets. 79% of boating deaths are due to drowning. 2/3 of drowning victims are good swimmers. Alcohol use is the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents. Please pay attention and think safety first.

As our team prepares and plans for an all hazards weekend, please do your part by being proactive with safety. We hope you have a fun and exciting weekend and know our team is prepared and focused for whatever mission comes our way.
