Bro. Metcalfe Miller, 92, former pastor of Columbia and Shiloh Christian

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home shares news of the death of Bro. Metcalfe Miller who passed away in Lexington on Monday, February 28. Services will be held there on Thursday, March 3, 2005.

Local survivors are Judge Jerry Vaughan and his wife Patricia, and Jane Watson and her husband Phillip.


Metcalfe Miller was the son of the late William and Margaret Metcalfe Miller, born in Newport, Kentucky. He was the widower of Esthelene Shields Miller and Pearl Vaughan Miller.

He was a graduate of Johnson Bible College and the Theological Seminary and was a Christian minister for 68 years pastoring in Kentucky and surrounding states including the Columbia Christian Church and Shiloh Christian Church. He taught at Kentucky Christian College for ten years, the College of Scriptures in Louisville, Louisville Bible College and was Chaplain of Pastoral Care for eight years at Huntington State Hospital. He received additional education at Cincinnati Bible College and the University of Kentucky, was a Trustee of the College of Scriptures since 1946 and was a member of First Christian Church in Lexington the final years of his life. He was also a 50 year Mason and a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include:
  • A son, William D. and Carol Miller of Lexington
  • Two daughters, Jane and Thomas Hutchens of Winchester, and Ruth and Michael Back of Grayson, Kentucky
  • A step-son, Judge Jerry Vaughan of Columbia
  • A step-daughter Jane Watson of Columbia
  • Ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren
Funeral services are Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at W. R. Milward Mortuary - Southland in Lexington. Rev. David Williams will officiate.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Grayson at 3:30 p.m. after the service.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the Johnson Bible College, 7900 Johnson Drive, Knoxville, TN.
