Etta Bell Bryant's hair trailed to the ground Miss Etta Bell Bryant of the Ozark community of Adair County had hair which trailed behind her to the ground. The photograph, on display in the Genealogy Room, Janice Holt Memorial/Adair County Public Library, was in the possession of the late Eula (Mrs. Lone) Willis of the Ozark Community, and later of Ozarkian Joe Richards. The picture was taken of Etta Bell Bryant when she was 18 years old. She was born November 16, 1880, and died on May 23, 1968. Joe says that she was a tall woman, 5'10". The photograph was taken by B.B. Montgomery, who was a prominentphotographer in the Ozark Community: East 80, at the intersection ofKeen-Wilson and East 80. Etta Bell Bryant never married. She maintained a household with asister who also remained single. Mr. Richards now lives in Somerset, retired after a career as an educator in the schools there. He has maintained much of the lore of the fabled Ozark community. He also has an ongoing quest for more information on the gas powered generator which once supplied current or lighting in Columbia homes. This story was posted on 2005-02-13 11:48:00
